The Bubble Battle Returns!

I haven't posted about NYC goings on in quite a while, perhaps because of the ever-lasting gloomy weather, perhaps because I've been too busy to notice! Either way, one of my favorite annual events is happening tomorrow, and I couldn't resist the opportunity to share the secret with all of you. Each year, a collective called Newmindspace puts together a series of crazy, wacky, out-of-the-box events that get great turnouts all over the city. They include the massive yearly pillow fight, light saber battles, and this--my absolute favorite. The annual Bubble Battle! Thousands gather in Times Square to blow bubbles at one another, reliving a little bit of our collective youths and remembering what it feels like to be 6 years old again. It's tomorrow at 6:15--and I hope to see some of you there!

The Foodie Scavenger Hunt!

It's no Friday afternoon porn, but I thought since we'd been shaking things up all week this would be a great week to bring all the craziness to a close. Now, by no means am I imploring you to go out and pursue the following opportunity. In its current shape, it doesn't exactly make sense.

See, this is a scavenger hunt for NYC foodies--the more food items you photograph yourself eating, the more points you get, and the person with the most points gets two tickets to Tom Collichio's "Toast to the Children" event. Sounds easy, until you add up the inevitable cost of both money and time that these tasks would take. However, it's a great list, and if anything, would make a fabulous checklist of foodie adventures to undertake throughout the city. Make it a mid-year resolution, maybe, or just a personal challenge--many of these just shouldn't be missed.

With that, happy weekend!

Link of the Day

Over the last few weeks, Meet has been covering the goings on around the rink at Rockefeller, and I thought I'd counter with news of a new rink for skating-lovers here in Manhattan.

In my mailbox this morning was a tip that the Museum of Natural History has opened a rink of its own, complete with a polar bear sculpture that illuminates the center of the skating area. It's a great deal, and the location is phenom. For $10 a person ($9 for students), you get admissions and rentals! And what looks like a view to die for...

The Polar Rink will be open from 12–8 pm Monday–Thursday, 12 pm–10 pm on Fridays, 11 am–10 pm on Saturdays, 11 am–8 pm on Sundays, and 11 am–10 pm on holidays.

Produce and Antiques at 67th

Those in the city looking for something to do this weekend--or any weekend!--need not stray too far from home. My home, that is!

The same market that features heirloom tomatoes and organic baby salad cucumbers, it turns out, has a weekly antiques market that features truly awesome stuff.

From antique lockets to vintage Tiffany serveware, you can find all sorts of one-of-a-kind steals at this little gem of a Saturday excursion.

And best of all, it takes over the same little public school every Saturday of the year--rain or shine, it's the go-to spot for all your seasonal produce and antique knickknack needs!

The 67th St. Market, on E 67th between 1st and York.

Happy weekend, everyone!
