For all those times that I wondered where the good food was in the Fashion Week tents, here's a lesson to be learned. Even when great food itself is not around, the possibilities still abound. That's a message that Bergdorf Goodman is putting into good practice with their new Fashion Week Tea Service, which is serving up treats inspired by the runway throughout the duration of this season's shows. The Times claims that it's a great idea to eat lookalikes when the real deal isn't in the cards, but at $45-60 for tea service, this may just be another thing to add to the list of "unaffordable beauties."

Obsession du jour: Spoon Necklaces

Sometimes food pops up in aspects of my life where I'm simply not expecting. And as much as those cupcake t-shirts and necklaces last season were just a tacky iteration of a widespread craze (of which I take partial responsibility), I love it when food makes unexpected, edgy, and chic cameos into the fashion world. I know I'm not the only one--Duff Goldman of Ace of Cakes fame has a whisk for a tattoo. That's close enough to accessorizing, right?


Anyhow, these adorable spoon necklaces are dainty and sweet, but with just a little bit of attitude. Modeled after absinthe spoons from decades past, they remind me of the Parisian-retro-glam style of Moulin Rouge. And, quite frankly, how can you go wrong with that?

Fashion Has Never Been Sweeter

I suppose the theme of this week is going to have to be "indulgence," what with a cream sauce pasta, funky cocktails, and now a recap of the NY Chocolate Show to get us into the thick of the week. Before I get into my favorite vendors from the show (which I'll cover tomorrow), I was hoping to share some of my favorite snapshots from the annual Chocolate Fashion Show, an opening night tradition that's loved by all! This year's theme? Sweet Superheroes!


For anyone who watches America's Next Top Model as religiously as I do, it was an enormous surprise to see Jaslene open the show. I'll be honest and say I was never her biggest fan, but it was no less awesome to see her walk the runway.


Probably one of my favorite looks from the evening, this was also one of the most chocolate-centric costumes to strut by. It's easy for chocolate designs to become too heavy and cumbersome to be flattering, but this looks just as great as it would probably taste.


Using white chocolate as a canvas for tons of colors was an idea that I was really digging, as so many other designs succumbed to a completely brown palette.

I have no clue what superhero this was meant to be or if one designer just missed the memo. However, the color work on this was phenomenal too. I'm still in awe as to how much time this would have taken to complete. Despite breaking the theme, it was nice to see something that looked... wearable, for lack of a better word.

And, for the first time I'd seen, there were men decked in cocoa as well! This one was particularly entertaining... but not as much so as the bodybuilder model who lost his costume halfway down the runway! Uh-oh!

White Coats Galore

Today is a very exciting day, because it is the day that the wonderful boyfriend officially starts medical school! The first day involves standard orientation activities and getting-to-know-you's, but it also includes something far more exciting: the White Coat ceremony, where he will receive his crisp new medical jacket emblazoned with his name and school crest. It's a moment I know he's been waiting for forever, and I'm so proud of him for reaching it.

In honor of today's white coat ceremony, which I sadly could not attend, I've decided to bring you a White Coat roundup just in time for the fall season. It might take the scientific edge off of the thing, but none of you readers were really interested in that anyway... or were you?

I think white coats are actually a wonderful transitional trend, pairing the ubiquitous summer color with a chic look for fall. This 3/4 sleeve version from Victoria's Secret is especially summery, but with a rich brown belt, it would pair beautifully with knee-high boots way into next season.

I'm also loving this lightweight trench by Bloomingdale's. I never realized the value of a trench until I finally caved and bought a wonderful sage green one two years ago, but trench coats in bright colors always work well for fall and spring.
Finally, I found this beautiful jacket by Milly--although it's a total splurge item that I could never afford, the boucle ruffle trim and round neckline make it so sophisticated, unique, and stylish that I can't resist including it here.


But please, remember, none of these are meant to be worn into the operating room!
